A Repeatable Blog Topic Research Process for Small Teams
How small teams can run a systematic blog topic research process monthly — tools, inputs, outputs, and how to prioritize what to write next.

The monthly topic research session
Set aside 90 minutes once a month to replenish your topic pipeline. The output: 8–12 validated topic ideas added to your content calendar, prioritized by traffic potential and resource cost.
Step 1–2: Review and mine
Start in Google Search Console: which existing posts have impressions but low CTR? These are easy wins to update rather than create from scratch.
Then mine keyword tools for new opportunities: questions your current posts don't answer, keywords competitors rank for that you don't.
- Google Search Console: impressions with low CTR → update existing posts
- Ahrefs/SEMrush: competitor gap analysis → new topics
- AnswerThePublic: question clusters around your seed keywords
- Your own support inbox: questions that come up repeatedly
Step 3: Prioritize and schedule
Score each topic on two dimensions: traffic potential and production cost. Prioritize high-potential, lower-cost topics first.
WebEnture's Blog Ideas Agent automates the first pass of this research — analyzing your site's content gaps and surfacing keyword opportunities so your monthly session focuses on evaluation and scheduling.
