What Is Domain Authority and Does It Actually Predict Rankings?
Domain Authority is one of the most referenced metrics in SEO. Here's what it actually measures, how it's calculated, and whether it's worth tracking.

Does it predict rankings?
Correlation studies consistently show that higher DA/DR correlates with higher rankings. Sites with higher domain authority tend to rank higher on average for competitive keywords. This correlation is real — but it reflects that both are measuring the same underlying thing (link authority from external sites) rather than DA directly causing rankings.
The correlation breaks down for several reasons: on-page quality, content freshness, user experience signals, and topical authority can allow a lower-DA site to outrank a higher-DA site for specific queries. A specialist site with deep coverage of a narrow topic can outrank a general authority site that covers the topic shallowly.
Use DA as a directional metric — a site with DA 15 has much less link authority than a site with DA 45, and that difference will show in rankings for competitive terms. But don't optimize for DA as a goal. Optimize for building real links from real sites; DA improvement follows.
