Google Ads Quality Score: How Your Landing Page Tanks It
Quality Score affects what you pay per click and where your ad appears. How landing page experience is evaluated, what Google's crawlers look for, and how to fix a poor score.

What Quality Score actually is
Google Ads Quality Score is a 1–10 rating per keyword that affects your ad rank (position in the auction) and your actual cost per click. A higher Quality Score means you pay less for the same position than a competitor with a lower score.
Three components: Expected Click-Through Rate, Ad Relevance, and Landing Page Experience. Each is rated Above Average, Average, or Below Average. Landing Page Experience is the most underweighted by advertisers — a Below Average rating forces you to bid higher to achieve the same ad position as competitors with better-scored pages.
What Google evaluates on your landing page
Four main factors: relevance (does the page directly address what the user searched for?), transparency (contact info, ownership, no aggressive popups), ease of navigation (can users find what they need without excessive clicking?), and load speed.
Load speed is evaluated against Core Web Vitals benchmarks. A 5-second mobile landing page gets a worse rating than an equivalent 2-second page. Since mobile is the majority of ad traffic, mobile speed matters more than desktop.
- Match landing page content to keyword intent — 'running shoes' search → running shoes page, not homepage
- Include keyword or close variants in page headline and body
- Make contact info and privacy policy accessible within 1–2 clicks
- Achieve LCP under 2.5s on mobile
- Remove intrusive popups that appear immediately on arrival
Message match: the most common Quality Score killer
Message match is consistency between what your ad promises and what the landing page delivers. If your ad says 'Free Shipping on All Orders' and the landing page doesn't mention free shipping, Google's relevance algorithms see a disconnect.
Strongest message match: the ad headline appears as or near the landing page H1. If your ad says 'Professional Web Design — From $999', the landing page should open with similar messaging, not a generic 'Welcome to Our Agency' headline.
Diagnosing your landing page Quality Score
In Google Ads, navigate to Keywords → Columns → Modify Columns → Quality Score. Add the Landing Page Experience column. Any 'Below Average' rating is costing you money. For each, check: Does the landing page mention the keyword? Is the page mobile-fast? Is there an arrival popup? Is contact info visible? Is there a single clear CTA?
WebEnture's Ads Landing Page Agent evaluates your landing pages against Google's Quality Score criteria — message match, load speed, content relevance, conversion focus, and mobile experience — and gives you a score with a specific fix list for each factor.
